FAQs

The questions we are asked most often — about ordering, delivery, paying, and what is in the food we sell. If yours is not answered here, ask us and we will answer it, and add it to this page.

Ordering

Do I need an account to order?

Yes. You can browse the whole shop and fill a basket without one, but the checkout is open only to signed-in customers with a confirmed email address. That is what keeps your order history, your saved addresses and any return you make attached to the right person.

Registering takes a minute: we email you a one-time code to confirm the address is yours. Whatever is already in your basket comes with you when you sign in.

Can I ask you to stock something?

Please do. The shelves in the shop turn over faster than the website, and if we can source something we usually will. Use the contact form and choose "Something you would like us to stock".

I know you sell it, but I cannot find it on the site.

Try another spelling. The search reads Romanian words with or without their diacritics, and it knows the usual transliterations — momo and mo:mo, dal and daal, achar and aachar all find the same products.

If it still does not come up, it may be something we only carry on the shop floor. Ask us and we will tell you.

Delivery and collection

Where do you deliver?

Anywhere in Romania. You can also collect your order from the shop, which costs nothing and is usually the fastest way to get it.

What does delivery cost?

A flat rate, shown in your basket before you pay anything. Orders over 150,00 lei are delivered free. Collecting from the shop is always free.

Where is my order?

Sign in and open My account → Orders. The status there is the order's real state, and we email you each time it changes.

We do not yet show live courier tracking on the site. When we do, it will be on that same screen.

Paying

How can I pay?

By card, by PayPal, or in cash to the courier who brings the order. Cash on delivery is offered only for billing addresses in Romania, because a courier elsewhere cannot collect it.

Card numbers are typed into the payment provider's own form and never reach this website. We do not see them and we cannot store them.

Do the prices include VAT?

Yes. The price on a product is the price you pay for it; delivery, if you are not collecting, is added in the basket.

Romanian VAT is charged per product rather than at one rate for the whole shop — most groceries sit at the reduced food rate, while alcohol, food supplements and high-sugar items are charged at the standard rate. Your receipt shows the split.

Can I have an invoice for my company?

Yes. Tick "I need a VAT invoice for a company" at checkout and fill in the company name, its CUI and its Nr. Reg. Com.

We ask for those before the order is placed rather than afterwards, because an invoice without the CUI cannot be deducted and would have to be issued again.

Food, ingredients and allergens

How do I know what is in something?

Every food product page carries its allergen declaration, its ingredients, the net quantity and — where the item is sold by weight or volume — the price per kilogram or litre. EU food information law requires all of it when food is sold at a distance, and nothing edible goes on sale here until the allergen field is filled in.

I have an allergy. Can I rely on what the site says?

The allergen information comes from the manufacturer's own packaging and we keep it current. Recipes do change, though, and the pack in your hand is the authority — please read it before eating anything you are allergic to.

If the pack and the page disagree, tell us. The pack is right, and we will correct the page.

If something is wrong

Something arrived damaged, wrong, missing or past its date.

Tell us and we will put it right. Sign in, open My account → Orders, find the order and start a return. You will be asked for a photograph of the problem, which is what lets us settle most cases without anything having to travel back.

Fresh and chilled items can be claimed for 48 hours after delivery; everything else for 14 days.

Can I return something I have simply changed my mind about?

Within 14 days of delivery, yes — for sealed items that are still sealed.

Romanian distance-selling law withdraws that right for food that spoils quickly and for sealed goods that cannot be returned once opened, which between them cover much of a grocery basket. You do not have to work out which is which: the return form offers the option only on the items it actually applies to.

The shop

Do you have a real shop?

Yes. Gurkhas Mart is a physical mart, and the website sells from the same shelves. The address and the opening hours are at the foot of every page.

How do I get in touch?

The contact page has the address, the phone number and a form. If your question is about an order you have already placed, include the order number — it reaches the right person faster.
